Medical Care and Outcomes operates on the principle that the current healthcare delivery
model is incomplete. Our organization believes that there are current gaps in healthcare delivery
that produce profoundly negative effects on patients, providers, payers, manufacturers, and the
economy.
The problem
The current healthcare delivery model makes it difficult, if not impossible, for providers to
track their patient's progress following the physician's office visit. Many providers lack the
time or resources needed to monitor patients effectively between visits, and rely solely on the
patient's ability to recall and act on the information provided during the patient visit. The
provider assumes that most, if not all patients will proactively call the office if the desired
outcome is not achieved. However, it is well documented that many patients do not understand
their healthcare status and the medications prescribed to treat their condition. Our work over
the past decade concurs with published patient non-compliance data stating that treatment
non-compliance rates for conditions such as mental health, diabetes, and asthma are alarmingly
high. Unfortunately, most providers are unaware of their patient's non-compliance. If providers
were made aware of their patient's adherence and outcomes, they could better assist their patients
to comply with their prescribed treatment. Medical Care and Outcomes enhances healthcare delivery
by proactively bridging the knowledge and communication gaps that exist in the current healthcare
environment.
Below are some statistics on non-compliance:
- There are 823,500,000 medical office visits per year in the United States
- There are 545,000,000 (66%) Prescriptions generated from those visits
- 50% of patients never fill their prescription
- Within two months, 50% of those who initially fill do not refill
- Non-compliance for mental health diseases runs between 70% and 80%, with 90% of adverse
reactions arising from non-compliance
